Frequent urination in pregnancy
Frequent urination in pregnancy is one of the most common early signs of pregnancy and starts about six weeks of first trimester. It is usually caused by the pregnancy hormones. The pregnancy hormone hCG increases the blood flow near the pelvic area. Hormonal changes occur during the pregnancy stage and we all are aware of it. So this changes make blood flow to kidney more often and quickly and leads to filling of the bladder more often and quick, this causes frequent urination during the stage of pregnancy.
Even the growing uterus is also a cause for frequent urination. It build ups the pressure upon the bladder which
leads to frequent urination. Frequent urination during pregnancy can also be a sign of urinary tract infection which is the most common kind of bacterial infection in pregnant women. It can lead to kidney infection. In some cases particularly in older women who had urinary stress in early pregnancy, continue to have leaking
urine problems after giving birth. So one should consult a doctor if they still have urinary stress problem.
Here are some tips to avoid frequent urination in pregnancy :
~ Skip some kind of beverages like coffee and tea and even carbonated drinks as these all are diuretics that is they increase the urine production and leads frequent urination.
~ Try emptying the bladder completely and never try to hold it. Waiting can actually weaken the pelvic floor muscles which can cause further urinary stress problems.
~ Don’t ignore the urge to urinate and try emptying bladder before exercises. Kegel exercises helps in strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor which relives the urinary stress
Usually this frequent urination gets reduced once baby is born. The first days after giving birth urination occur in greater quantities than usual which gets rid of the extra fluid from pregnancy and after a week its often same as before the pregnancy stage.
